BenQ W500 HD Projectors [720p]

The budget brother of BenQ W5000  and W20000 1080p projectors , the W500 720p projectors is a great specification at a price. It is not as perfect as the color of his brothers and not easy to configure, but it is still a great choice to be the backbone of a budget home theater.

BenQ W500 HD Projectors

This is a remarkable resolution 1280x720pixels, commonly known as 720p. This is normal for the entry-level projectors for home theater, although it is a kind of strike, 1080p support for low prices. The W500 is a 3LCD model, using technology from the color wheel DLP technology in the rest of the BenQ range of home entertainment. 3LCD has the advantage of being compact, it is particularly important for budget projectors, with consumers less willing to purchase the heavy or bulky models.

The projector is on the same level as the W5000 and W20000, and sports a shiny white casing. The aim is to balance the right side and fitted into the body of the projector. It offers a 1.2x zoom rating, which is a bit low for our ideas and limits options for placement. Fortunately, there is a reasonable amount of horizontal and vertical displacement with the electronic key to secure compensation optimum position and shape.

The control panel is at the top of the body of the projector, but it is on the back of the left side. This could be a problem if you use the projector on a platform. However, as the other models from BenQ, a remote control is included, after the initial configuration is not necessary to meet the new projector.

A decent amount of connections are located on the back of the device, hidden under a slight lip to collect any dust. Two types of component and HDMI and VGA ports for analog and digital high-definition resolution, while the lower resolutions are the S-Video and Composite.

Like other 3LCD projectors, the W500 is a filter cleaned or replaced regularly, but can be found on the basis of this device, together with the lamp door. The lamp costs about $ 500 for the road, which is comparable with other units of the budget.

The picture quality is pretty good. It's not like the film, as the W20000, but it's incredibly brilliant black with a good picture and no noise.
Color balance is surprisingly good. Out of the box, only slightly towards red, and that was only in dark scenes. With this correction, and very easy to set the level of gray, the projector is very balanced and clean palette of colors. These adjustments are simply a complete and easy to navigate the menu system, the settings for all the big (and small), color and picture settings.

The brightness of 1100 ANSI lumens and solid unit is the dynamic contrast ratio of 5000:1 when the iris setting is used. These figures are more than acceptable to the content in a dark room, but you might have problems in less than perfect condition.

Projector black are equally impressive, with a high contrast scenes are very much alive. Shadow detail is perhaps not as high as could be - in our vision of a Blu-ray version of Batman Begins by a Samsung BD-P1000, we have found that many of the missing details in dark scenes.

Image noise is not present, a surprise given the budget price of the W500. Surprisingly, this has been achieved without compromising the sharpness, accurate focusing, images are sharp and clear, without too sharp or blurred.

The projector has a "high, though. Audible noise level is 31dB in full brightness mode, which is quite high for its class. If you are behind the projector you not noticed that most of the noise, but if you look on the page or in front, then your experience surround sound could be somewhat "spoiled.

The W500 is a projector with a high image quality for a budget model. Once you have properly configured, the W500 colors and sharpness are balanced and the black spot-on. The only drawback is the noise of the fan. Our only complaint is the lack of a second HDMI input.
